Leigh has a long history with and a keen fondness for water sports in Queensland. Having grown up through Surf Life Saving Queensland as a member of Northcliffe SLSC for 11 years and a club member through Queensland Swimming for over 14 years, Leigh was fortunate enough to represent both Queensland and Australia in swimming, before injury prematurely ended his career.
Leigh is aware of the workings of club life, the importance of volunteers, and is familiar with elite sporting pathways. After retiring from elite swimming, he turned his focus to completing degrees in finance, accounting and law, and more recently completed an MBA. Leigh has practiced as a lawyer, and now occupy commercial roles with recent positons in mining, health and insurance industries.
Leigh gives back to the community as a Qualified Justice of the Peace, and welcomes the opportunity to be involved in sport once again as an Independent Director on the Board of Queensland Canoeing.
Leigh commenced as an Independent Director on the Board of Queensland Canoeing in March 2016.
