Congratulations to Queenslanders Lachlan Bancroft, Carter Brodhurst-Hill, Alicia Fay and Anthea Warne who were part of the Australian Team that recently competed at the 2017 Junior Olympic Hopes Canoe Sprint Championships over the 15-17 September 2017.
Words from Christine Duff, Olympic Hopes Team Manager:
“Well another Olympic Hopes experience is about to draw to a close. I’m pretty confident that this group have learnt a lot over the past two and a half weeks away. Most are relatively young in terms of paddling experience compared to their European counterparts. What was so pleasing was this groups preparedness to learn. They trained very well in the lead and and were understandably nervous on day one of competition but every race they raced they raced better than the one before. They looked, they learnt and they are keener than ever to come back bigger, stronger and faster next year.
The team was also a very cohesive unit. Everyone got along, they were supportive of each other on and off the water and their great enthusiasm for everything we did was contagious .
A big thankyou to the families who worked so hard to give their children this experience and of course to their home based coaches. A big thanks also to Dave Smith, Bernadette Wallace and Nick Bulmer for their tireless efforts while we have been away. With younger teams like this is not just the coaching but the pastoral care and advice they provide all day every day.”
